A Note from Our Founder

Becoming a mother has been the most fulfilling experience of my life. Nothing else compares and the satisfaction that I feel taking care of someone else who unconditionally loves and needs me is indescribable. But let's be real - it's not glamorous! The poop, pee, lack of sleep, worry and stress (to name a few) have definitely been overwhelming and defeating at times. I know there are so many mothers out there that feel the same way! With Jhula, I want to create a space and experience to focus on the fun parts of motherhood when it’s so easy to get lost in the not-so-fun stuff or buried under loads of laundry.

The inspiration for Jhula came on my first Mother's Day in 2019. My daughter was 9 months old. Along with my husband, we spent the weekend away and our Sunday plans consisted of a quick brunch, hugging goodbye to our friends and getting onto the road for our 3 hour journey home. In other words, there wasn't an opportunity for a big acknowledgement or celebration for Mother's Day, but I still wanted it to be special. I took it upon myself to buy us cute, matching outfits - which I was excited about! In my mind, this wasn't something that would take too much of my time or be incredibly difficult to find.

Unexpectedly, my search ended up taking hours. I am sure that other mothers can agree with me when I say that our time is precious and online shopping is not a luxury we typically have with an infant crawling around! And now here I was - scrolling through pages and websites and reviews, digging to find something fit for the occasion. I was frustrated.

Eventually I landed on a choice that I loved, but I had to ask myself - “why was something so simple, so difficult to find?” A light bulb turned on…I wanted to create a place for busy moms to know they could find something matching that they were excited to wear, and trust it was designed thoughtfully with function and comfort at the forefront. A few months later, I registered Jhula and began my journey as an entrepreneur.

I started out with no specific background in the industry. Fashion, retail, manufacturing, production - it was all completely new. But I knew this project was important to me and so I have kept learning, failing and learning more along the way to make this dream a reality. I happened to be winding down my part-time office job around the same time I began Jhula, which gave me the opportunity to put more energy into this journey.

I think it is also important to mention that this adventure has helped me so much personally. It's so easy to get lost in the day to day of being a mom and I started to feel like very little was mine. I was craving to put my energy into something else to ground me and help me in this redefinition of my identity as a mother. More on that later...

Working on Jhula has been a way for me to be creative, engage with others, and learn - while giving me the flexibility to work on my own time. The privilege that I've had to be able to pivot into something new is not lost on me, and I feel so lucky to pursue something new. I am looking forward to channeling my love and passion for motherhood into something bigger through Jhula and giving back in the process. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to organizations that support new moms and I hope to develop even more impactful campaigns in the future.

The last few years have been a whirlwind, and I am incredibly grateful for all of the people who have helped and mentored me along the way. A few years after that Mother's Day epiphany, I am getting ready for my first launch! Thank you for being a part of this journey. This is the first blog post of many (that's the plan at least!) in which I am hoping to share thoughts and lessons through my motherhood journey, alongside Jhula. I hope you'll stay along for the ride.
